i my name is katrina comport i am research sociologist at the university of california

san francisco and i'm to be talking today about the paper i haven't symbolic interaction

in tactile misunderstanding abortion regret

so it can do this project and of interest in the controversy over abortion regret

and what it quickly discovered is that this is fundamentally a political controversy for political

claims and there is a very image empirical research on this topic

but so what i try to do in this paper is offer some empirical evidence

about some the sources of emotional difficulty that women identify round they're abortion experiences a

that so the first source that i found was social disapproval so the case where

women for whom the decision to have an abortion and the experience proportion itself

were entirely problematic and the difficulty that emerge for them came after the fact

when they were confronted by people who were just to provide more judgemental of their

decision

and the second category i have is a romantic relationship lost these four women were

appended by their partners when they discover they were pregnant and so their decision to

have an abortion never be separated in their mind from the devastation experience from being

a banded by partner

identify the last category was women who talked about in their own more it had

versus for conflict so this was an emotional conflict basically between a rational or practical

assessment that in me and assign to their head an attachment that they felt pregnancy

something the ascribed to their heart and that conflicts

maybe the experience of pregnancy and then make the n portion decision the abortion itself

and afterwards emotionally difficult and they show that for most of those women that last

category they still not that the portion was the right decision you just

where means something that was emotionally conflicted

so this paper i able to add some stories winslet experience around abortion to supplement

a lot of the political claims making that so far we characterized our discussion of

abortion regret thank you have enjoyed paper
