0:00:02a little time you one was a professor in the department of only clear madison
0:00:06at a long university and i'm bleeding a genomic research program on cards you respiratory
0:00:11disease a decent to invest that like of the energy than what is you get
0:00:15back
0:00:16and the author audible books publications and title updates on this u p teaching this
0:00:21pollution international journal of c p d
0:00:26i was first asked to review the genetics of c u p d in two
0:00:30thousand and eight which later publications in two thousand and nine in the journal far
0:00:35mccall june it makes
0:00:37since that publications i'm keeping track of the literatures as a major research interests
0:00:43there's a key features that i would like to highlight in this review article
0:00:48first are table one and supplementary table one
0:00:53these tables provide summarize genetic association studies in ensue p d and related and a
0:01:01type
0:01:02publish before two thousand and eleven
0:01:05there's a total of one hundred and ninety two genes in and this table and
0:01:10the goal of this table was to provide a comprehensive list of publications for any
0:01:16giving genes without judging the quality of these publications
0:01:22so in figure one
0:01:24i am illustrate all these one hundred and ninety two genes in one if you
0:01:30so if you look at figure one on the x axis you can see the
0:01:34number of studies supporting the associations
0:01:37and on the y-axis the number of genes
0:01:41and for example if you look at the second bar you can see that at
0:01:45sixteen genes where supported by at least one of publications
0:01:50and their need that bar you can see the eighty six genes
0:01:55you can also see in this figure that there are seven genes that were replicate
0:02:00in more than ten publications
0:02:03however these are not necessarily the most robust genes associated with superior or related find
0:02:09it i
0:02:10in fact if you will in figure number two you can see the relationship between
0:02:14the positive and negative studies
0:02:18as an example if you look at the upper right corner of this figure you
0:02:22can see that teen of chains we can found in the literatures twenty publication that
0:02:28support the genetic variance and eighteen of genes are associated with a with soupy you
0:02:34are related to find a type however we can also find twenty
0:02:38different publications that do not support such association
0:02:43so it seems that genes that are the most replicate ensue p d are simply
0:02:49the genes that are the most popular genes that
0:02:53and perhaps the most convincing soupy d jeans so far are those that are less
0:02:58study but consistently replicated as illustrate and the lower right corner of that figure
0:03:06i think the most important discoveries in the field of genetics of superiors ring the
0:03:11past few years where the right from june on why association studies
0:03:17in the text i describe each of the g was published in c p d
0:03:22and long functions and related complications all the major findings are summarised in table two
0:03:31finally i completely article by giving some of my perspectives in the field
0:03:36i thing identifying them only clear basis of c p d is challenging
0:03:42but i think the years ahead are likely to be very exciting
0:03:46janet i think geneticist will need to work together a but also with t the
0:03:51full spectrum of experts that are treating patients with soupy d in order to have
0:03:56large sample size as well as to have fun to types that are very well
0:04:01characterize with precise penetrate
0:04:04i also think that we need more than g was studies
0:04:08we need more integrative genomics approach and i briefly touch on about this side jamaican
0:04:15research projects that i'm doing with my colleagues on long specimens are identified long qta
0:04:21else
0:04:22so i hope that this collection of studies will be a useful for researchers in
0:04:28the field and it can also provide concise overview for of the genetics of soupy
0:04:34d for the general readers of the international journal of soupy
0:04:39thanks for listening and i hope you enjoy reading it
