so what we're doing it this experiment is

trying to figure out exactly

why and how tree style even though everyone knows that droughts

come along and vegetation dies

nobody yet can predict where when

how fast how well the idea is that these drought structures move about half of

the water that false a little rain or snow false here

it's all the way trains downhill

so that this ecosystem receives about fifty percent

the ambient rainfall this induces a drought stresses trees

in addition we know that when there are droughts it usually really hot

and we expect that to get much worse because all the evidence shows quite strongly

that there's temperature is going on

is and you never tree here

in study here we measured the water flows through the cheese

and everything is regulated by these temperature and humidity sensors which are designed to keep

the temperature in here about five celsius above and to choose

the air is blown and from h back units through these to these ducks

the other species were looking at here is the pinion time

juniper ending in point are very useful

study specimens because juniper is fairly drought tolerant although it does not very low but

not as much as pinion pine

which is fairly similar to most fines globally

this experiment is

a one of the current experiment in the sense of its size and its combination

factors manipulating

what's

completely novel about this particular experiment is that we not only have the drought structure

but we're also heating the trees

it allows us to really assess how things might function in the future

it's important for side be aware this i think because

myself and lots of others like really care about our force

we care about

or while glancing this if they're gonna be here for kids we will have to

make decisions as a society

to know how we're gonna manager in portfolio decisions we make with regards to

client

then walking enough and fortunate enough to have an amazingly good team great managers

excellent staff

excellent students postdocs we've been able to build together over the years

a program including this wonderful experiment allows us to really start answering these questions without

these experiments were not we can't really figure out

how trees die

so i'm extremely excited about this is really fun
